Frequently Asked Questions

I currently do not have a passport, can I still apply?

Please note that due to the nature of timeline and to make visa arrangements, it is required that you provide us with the passport details for your application to be valid. Please provide us these details by the application deadline. In case you are unable to provide us with your passport details by the deadline, we may not be able to consider your application. Thank you for your understanding.

What is the age limit?

GSCSY will consider all applicants who are under 35 years of age at the time of COP24.

Please note that participation of individuals who are “minor”, that is under 16 years of age, is governed by the policy of UNFCCC. If you are under 16 years of age at the time of COP24, GSCSY will cover costs of a chaperone with you. Please note that the chaperone will also need an accreditation to attend COP24, hence you will have to provide those details to us in the application form. GSCSY invites all children and youth of the world, who are taking climate action, to apply.

What countries are eligible to apply?

Children and youth holding nationalities of countries from the “Global South” are eligible to apply. Please visit the list on this link to check the countries:

What is UNFCCC “accreditation”?

All participants to the UNFCCC conferences need an official registration. These “accreditations” can only be provided an admitted NGO or other entity which the UNFCCC has already “admitted” as an “observer”. Without this registration, you cannot attend a COP.

You can find a list of those observer organizations at: https://unfccc.int/process/parties-non-party-stakeholders/non-party-stakeholders/admitted-ngos/list-of-admitted-ngos

If you have any connections to them, you could ask them for an accreditation (provided they have one free, as the demand is typically much higher than the supply). It is also possible to ask your government to provide you with one.

Can my school/university provide me accreditation?

Perhaps, but maybe not! Please visit the UNFCCC website to find the list of the accredited NGOs which may grant you accreditation: https://unfccc.int/process/parties-non-party-stakeholders/non-party-stakeholders/admitted-ngos/list-of-admitted-ngos

Can I apply without an accreditation?

If you are not able to provide your own source of accreditation, then you are still welcome to apply for the GSCSY, but eligibility of your application will be contingent upon the GSCSY Team being able to find a source of accreditation on your behalf. Please know that all accreditations are strictly controlled by the UNFCCC, and as such, the GSCSY team CANNOT guarantee being able to find you accreditation for COP24 (and if we cannot find it, then any applications without it will unfortunately be ineligible). Thank you for your understanding.

Can I get accreditation from an organization outside my country?

Yes, as long as the organization is listed in the link provided above, there will be no issues.

I submitted incorrect information. Can I update it?

No, you cannot update your answers once you have submitted your application! However, we can update your passport and other basic information for you. Please write us an email detailing that with the new/revised (basic) info. Thanks for your understanding.
